Magnificent Promises and Partakers of Divine Nature

I was thinking this morning of our relationship with God and what it means to be in relationship with Him.  If you have lived for any length of time, I am sure you have found that there are honorable people in the world; those who will live by their commitments and those well, not even close!  We have seen the world leaders; pastors, neighbors and even a friend fall, set on the shelf because of moral decay.  We are sometimes dismayed, even shocked,  but almost always we are hurt and disappointed.  We can be deceived the easiest by those who call themselves followers of Christ. I have been thinking of how being honorable works and about the “not even close part.”

Listen to this now. 2 Peter 1:1-3 (NASB) Simon Peter . . . to those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours . . . in the true knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

Let’s discount those posers out there who deceive us or pilfer for the church, who pretend to be believers.  Those planted as weeds among wheat.  Those folks are easy to understand; there is no spiritual life in them.  But what’s up with the Christian, who has been regenerated, born again with the seed of the Spirit of God. This person has within his grasp God’s divine power.  Now when this person deceives us or is caught in their sin, we are dismayed.

Listen to what we believers have available to us.

2 Peter 1:4-5 (NASB) For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.  Now for this very reason also, applying all dilligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge . . .

You see the key to honor, living with our agreements, is that we, yes you, are to decide that you are going to train your brain to do truth.  Decide ahead of time to live your life in a way that demonstrates what you believe.  After all, it is your brain, and you can fill it up with what you desire to obtain as an outcome.

Pair of hands holding a blue brain

You have been given the ability to choose what to think, what to feel, and how to behave.  God’s word is truth, and you are to decide to make every effort by applying all diligence to the task because you are a partaker of the divine nature.  When you were born again, you became a partaker of the divine nature!  You have the power from God that allows you to make every effort to live a moral and excellent life, not on your own strength, but because you possess His strength.

It takes faith, the same faith Peter had, we have, and this faith empowers us to turn away from the lies that infiltrate the world; the matrix is all around us.  You decide today, this day, what you will set your mind upon – what is true, lovely and pure.  Decide, be determined, apply all diligence, supply moral excellence!
